Introducing our new Chair!

5 June, 2017

Jamie Rutherford, Head of Employability at Enable Scotland has taken over as Chair of the SUSE Board.  Here are some words from Jamie.

"I'm delighted to take up the post of Chair at SUSE at an exciting time.  I would like to thank my predecessor Kate Storrow for the leadership she has provided for SUSE for the past 7 years with drive, enthusiasm and humour.

This is a period of change in the Scottish employability sector and SUSE will move forward to reflect this.  The new Fair Start Scotland programme to be introduced from April 2018 creates an opportunity to establish Supported Employment services that will give high quality support for jobseekers with disabilities or long-term health conditions.  SUSE want to play a full part in these welcome developments and ensure that new services offer person centred support that leads to real jobs.

In recent years we have worked to establish a recognised qualification for our sector; the Professional Development Award in Supported Employment, a peer support network for jobseekers and accreditation for forward thinking employers.  During my time as Chair I hope to be able to build on these and work with our members to embed the standards and principles of Supported Emploment in services across Scotland.  We know that given the right support every person can make a contribution in our communities and enjoy a working life.  SUSE will continue to champion and promote Supported Employment as the most effective pathway to paid work for jobseekers with disabilities or long-term conditions.

I look forward to welcoming you to our annual conference later this year when we will be sharing our strategy for taking SUSE forward over the next 3 years as we build an innovative and robust network of members, stakeholders and employers."
